Why Is the Quicken Update Not Working? Detailed Steps to Resolve the Issue

  

Quicken is a robust financial manager which keeps getting better over time. Thanks to the excellent maintenance team, the application gets regular updates and is able to maintain its excellent functioning. However, there have been a few reports of a Quicken update not working, majorly those done via One Step Update.

 


Quicken update not working error has the following indicators:

·        The system hangs when the user tries to perform a One Step Update;

·        All accounts show the “waiting” status for quite some time;

The good news is that this issue can be resolved quite simply, at least for the majority of the time. Some of the most common solutions to this error include: A simple restart might work like a charm for this error;

·        Some also recommend restarting the entire network infrastructure. This includes the router, modem, etc;

·        Another alternate is ensuring all the banks account numbers are correct;

·        Launching the Quicken application in Safe Mode might fix this issue;

·        Finally, users can also try to log out and log in to the app using the correct Quicken ID.

How to Troubleshoot the Quicken Update Not Working Issue?

 

Method 1 - Manually Update Quicken to the Latest Build

Before updating, we recommend that the user should create a backup file. This will be a system restore point for the worst-case scenario. Just navigate through File > Backup or Restore > Backup Quicken File. Once the backup is done, follow the next steps:

1.     Go to Help, here click on the option Check for Updates;

2.     If there is any update available, there will be a prompt that provides the option to install it;

3.     Finally, click Yes to confirm the download and installation of the update.

Once the update is installed, restart the system and the application. This should fix the update error.

 

Method 2 - Disable Proxy Settings of the System

Proxy servers are a great way to bypass different ISPs’ restrictions. However, it might also lead to the error we are trying to solve. Since a proxy server can lead to an insecure connection, it might lead to an issue. Disable it might be the trick to solving the update error:

1.     Right-click on the Windows button, then go to Settings;

2.     After that, hit on the Network & Internet;

3.     Now click on Proxy, it will be present on the left pane;

4.     Next, disable the option of Automatically Detect Settings and also disable Use Setup Script. Finally, disable the Use a Proxy Server which will be under Manual Proxy Setup;

5.     Finally, restart the system to have the changes take effect.

 

Method 3 - Remove a Buggy OS Update

The recent update can have an impact on Quicken. So remove the recent update and try to open it in the following way:

1.     Hit the Windows button and then use the Search functionality to look for Control Panel;

2.     After that, click on Programs > Uninstall a Program;

3.     Next, click on View Installed Updates on the left pane and go to the installed updates. Here, choose the problematic update and click on Uninstall;

4.     Now wait for the uninstallation to finish and then restart your system;

5.     Next, check if QuickBooks is working fine.
