Don't Lose Your Quicken Data: Troubleshooting Quicken Online Backup Issues

 


Your financial information, including reports, passwords, accounts, and attachments, is preserved when you back up your Quicken data on Quicken online backup. This is a way to transfer your data from one computer to another or to protect your records in the event of a computer malfunction.



 

Please be aware that the extension denotes a Quicken data file.The extension of a Quicken backup file is QDF.QDF-Backup (or, on a Mac, quicken.backup). 

 

There is no backup produced when you sync to the Quicken Cloud since Quicken data cannot be restored from the Quicken Cloud and can only be accessed by the desktop and mobile Quicken apps. A cloud backup is not created immediately when you back up your data file. However, you can use the 5GB of free online Dropbox storage that comes with the Quicken Subscription Release to store Quicken backup files.

 

How to Do Quicken Online Backup to a CD, DVD, USB thumb drive?

 

  • You can attach a flash drive or insert a CD/DVD to use as a backup.

Start Quicken.

  • Choose File > Backup or Restore > Backup Quicken File from the menu.

  • If necessary, click Change... to choose where you'd like to save your backup after selecting Back up on my computer or hard drive (CD, hard disc, thumb drive). 

  •  You can choose a flash drive or CD/DVD drive here.

  • To begin the backup procedure, click Back up Now.






Back up in Quicken for Windows

 

Step 1 -

 

Select File > Copy or Backup File

 

Step 2 -

 

For data backup, you have two choices: use Dropbox or back up to your computer or an external drive (such as a USB thumb drive).

 

Step 3 -

 

Check the box next to Add date to backup file name to make it easier to locate the most recent backup.  

 

Step 4 -

 

  • The name of the backup file (usually your Quicken file name followed by.QDF-backup) and the location where your backup will be saved will be shown by Quicken. 

  • We advise leaving the backup files' default save location, C:Users[your name]DocumentsQuickenBACKUP, alone.

  • Click Change... and choose a different folder to save the backup to if you want to change this location. 

  • Click Save after making your choice.

 

Step 5 - 

 

Click Back up Now.

 

Quicken Online Backup not Working

 

You can see a pop-up notice saying "File not backed up" when trying to backup your Quicken data file.



  •  File > Copy or Backup File can be accessed.

  •  Click Next after selecting Create a duplicate or template. 

  •  Don't make any changes to the Copy or Template screens; leave everything at its default settings, including the file name and checkboxes.

  •  Press Save Copy.

  •  Select to open the New Copy once the Copy is finished, then click OK.

  •  To be sure there are no lingering problems with the data in this file, pick Validate file from the File > Validate & Repair File menu in the New Copy, then click OK.

  • The Data_Log will show up in a Notepad window once the Validation procedure is complete. The outcomes of the Validation are summarised in this file. Look over the Data_Log.txt for any warnings or instructions regarding the quality of your data, and address any that are there.

  •  The file cannot be repaired if the notice "Damaged data block" appears in the Data_Log after the Validation is finished.  We advise recovering data from an earlier backup than the one shown on this message.

  • Retry backing up.

  • You might have accessed the wrong file if you restore and open a backup file only to find it empty. To help you find Quicken files,
